Belkyra is an injectable treatment specifically designed to reduce a double chin, also known as submental fullness. Guided by years of expertise, our cosmetic dermatologists skillfully perform Belkyra injections at our clinic in North Vancouver, focusing on achieving subtle, natural results. 

Belkyra works by breaking down fat cells in the treatment area, improving the appearance of a double chin and creating a slimmer and more youthful profile. The downtime with Belkyra is around 7-10 days. While the injections can cause mild discomfort, it is generally tolerable.

Belkyra harnesses the power of synthetic deoxycholic acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in the body, to target and permanently dissolve excess fat cells beneath the chin.

Currently, Belkyra is not approved by Health Canada for fat reduction in any other areas. However, your dermatologist may discuss using small amounts in areas such as the jowls to complement other treatments like fillers.

Most patients benefit from a series of Belkyra injections, typically requiring two to three treatments spaced about four weeks apart. Some patients may need up to six treatments.

Over the course of your treatment, Belkyra diminishes fat deposits and gradually reveals remarkable results. The good news is that these results are permanent. Once the desired effect is achieved, no touch-ups, retreatments, or maintenance are required.

Belkyra offers permanent fat reduction without excisions, stitches or scars. Less invasive than other surgical fat reduction treatments, downtime with Belkyra is minimal by comparison. While individual experiences may vary, many patients find they can quickly return to daily activities.

In the skilled hands of our dermatologists, Belkyra injections are administered with precision and care. To ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible, we apply a topical numbing cream prior to treatment, and most patients tolerate the procedure very well.

Swelling is an expected reaction as the Belkyra takes effect and is most noticeable for the first 4-7 days after treatment. Swelling generally becomes less severe with subsequent treatments. Discomfort and redness in the treatment area are also common but should resolve within the first week and can be managed with Tylenol and cold compresses.

Bruising in the treatment area may occur and could ‘travel’ down the neck. This is normal and not a cause for concern. Bruising can be covered with concealer or your favorite scarf, if desired.
